Protesters in Brisbane block traffic during morning rush hour on July 11, causing significant traffic delays

Supporters of the Extinction Rebellion environmental activist group blocked major intersections in downtown Brisbane on the morning (local time) of Thursday, July 11, to bring awareness to climate change issues. Significant traffic disruptions were reported in the CBD, including along Elizabeth and George streets. Police officers have been deployed around the protest site and demonstrators are allowing traffic to pass through some intersections as of 10:10. Residual traffic disruptions are expected in the CBD in the coming hours.
