A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck off the southern coast of Honshu, some 144 km (90 mi) east-southeast of Shingu, early (local time) on Sunday, July 28. No tsunami warning, advisory, watch, or threat was immediately issued by the US Tsunami Warning System and no casualties or material damages were immediately reported.
Aftershocks are possible in the affected region over the coming hours and days.
