Indonesia: Tsunami warning expires following 6.9-magnitude earthquake off Banten coast August 2 /update 2

The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) reported on Friday night (local time), August 2, that a tsunami warning had expired following a 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck 102 km (63 mi) west-southwest of Tugu Hilir (Banten province) at 19:03 on Friday. Neither is there an extent tsunami warning, advisory, watch, or threat to other coastlines in the Indian Ocean from the earthquake. Though shaking was felt in Jakarta, no casualties or major material damages were immediately reported. Some localized power outages have been reported in areas affected by the shaking.

Aftershocks are possible in the region over the coming hours and days.

Individuals in the region are advised to be prepared for aftershocks and to adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.

In the event of aftershocks, individuals are advised to protect themselves from falling debris if indoors, to move away from windows, and not attempt to leave the building unless there is an immediate danger. If outdoors, move away from tall buildings, utility wires, and streetlights.
