Afghanistan: Protest reported in Kabul August 27

Supporters of a presidential candidate in the upcoming elections are reportedly holding a protest in the Qala-e-Fatullah District in Kabul as of Tuesday, August 27. Protesters have gathered since 10:00 (local time).

Context

The first round of the presidential elections is set to take place on September 28. The elections were originally scheduled to take place on April 20, but were postponed twice due to security concerns. Authorities announced the deployment of 70,000 troops across the country to secure the elections, due to ongoing threats of attacks by the Taliban.
