Taiwan: Several injured by Typhoon Mitag October 1 /update 4

Taiwan's Central Emergency Operation Center (EMIC) announced at 09:30 (local time) on Tuesday, October 1, that at least 12 people were injured following the passage of Typhoon Mitag. The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) lifted land and sea warnings for Typhoon Mitag as of Tuesday afternoon. Despite intensive ongoing repair works, approximately 500 households were still being affected by power outages as of Tuesday morning. The Civil Aviation Authority said that at least 165 domestic and international flights were canceled on Monday, September 30. Lingering transport disruptions, including to ferry and flight services, as well as power outages and business disruptions are expected in the coming hours and days.

As of 11:00 (local time) on Tuesday, Tropical Storm Mitag is located at approximately 28.2°N 122.3°E (map here) and moving north at 18 kph (11 mph). Mitag is forecast to impact China, South Korea, and Japan in the coming days.

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, confirm flight reservations, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate adverse weather and power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
