Trade union confederation plans protests in 10 provinces on October 2; heightened security presence and localized transport disruptions expected

The Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) has called for protests in 10 provinces on Wednesday, October 2, to oppose a labor bill and to demand increased wages. Organizers have said that they expect approximately 150,000 people to participate in the protests across Jakarta, Bandung (West Java), Semarang (Central Java), Surabaya (East Java), Batam (Riau Islands), Medan (North Sumatra), Banjarmasin (South Kalimantan), Gorontalo, Lampung, and Banten. In Jakarta, approximately 30,000 workers are expected to march to the DPR building from 10:00 (local time). The roads surrounding the DPR building remain closed following unrelated protests in the area on Monday, September 30. However, protesters have said that they will march as close as possible to parliament, according to local media outlets.
A heightened security presence and localized transport disruptions are expected near all protest sites.
