Tunisia's newly elected president, Kais Saied, will be sworn in on Wednesday, October 23, at the Assembly of the Representatives of the People. An official ceremony will be held at the Presidential Palace in Carthage afterwards.

A heightened security presence, along with localized traffic disruptions are expected in the capital on Wednesday. Associated protests are possible.

Context

Kais Saied has won the Tunisian presidential run-off election on Sunday, October 13, defeating Nabil Karoui. Saied won 72.71 percent of the vote. Tunisia's electoral commission said voter turnout reached 39.2 percent, nearly 12 percent higher than the turnout during the first round of elections held on September 15.

Individuals in Tunisia, and particularly in Tunis, are advised to monitor developments, avoid all demonstrations, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
