Mozambique: Several killed in truck attacks in Cabo Delgado November 1-2

Event

Unidentified gunmen, suspected to be jihadist militants, attacked two trucks in the Cabo Delgado province on Friday, November 1, and Saturday, November 2.

On Friday, armed men shot at a truck stranded on the road near the village of Mau, killing ten people, before setting fire to the truck and looting houses in the village. On Saturday, another truck was attacked near Mumu; three people were killed and several others injured in the attack.

Further attacks are possible over the coming days and weeks in the province.

Context

Ahlu Sunna Wa-Jamo/Ansar Al-Sunna (Al-Shabaab) is believed to be responsible for carrying out attacks against local businesses, government installations, and security forces in Cabo Delgado province since October 2017.
