Australia: Wildfires cause evacuations in Queensland November 8

Fast moving and unpredictable wildfires in Queensland state caused officials to issue evacuation orders in multiple areas on Friday, November 8. Residents in Cooroibah and Scenic Rim have been ordered to evacuate while individuals in Buccan, Thornton, Clumber, and Lower Beechmont have also be told to prepare to leave. At least three fires in Queensland are at emergency level and over 40 fires are ongoing in the state. Extreme fire warnings are in place from the Gold Coast to the Sunshine Coast, and inland to Toowoomba, Dalby, Miles, and Goondiwindi.

Further spread of the fires is expected over the coming days as weather conditions across Queensland remain hot, dry, and windy. A heightened security presence, road closures, and power outages are to be expected in the vicinity of the wildfires.
