Japan: 5.1-magnitude earthquake strikes off the coast of Hachinohe December 19

The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 5.1-magnitude earthquake around 52 km (32 mi) east-northeast of Hachinohe (Honshū Island) on Thursday, December 19. The quake hit at around 15:21 (local time) at a depth of 55 km (34 mi). No tsunami warning was immediately issued. Aftershocks are possible in the affected area over the coming hours and days.
