A 5.2-magnitude earthquake east of Kimbe (West New Britain Province) December 26; no tsunami warning immediately issued

The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 5.2-magnitude earthquake around 78 km (48.5 mi) east of Kimbe (West New Britain Province) on Thursday, December 26. The quake hit at around 19:24 (local time) at a depth of 122 km (76 mi). No tsunami warning was immediately issued
Aftershocks are possible in the affected area over the coming hours and days.
