Mandatory evacuation orders are in effect for 12 towns and two cities in Batangas province as of Wednesday, January 15, due to the threat of ballistic projectiles, base surges, and possible volcanic tsunamis emanating from the nearby Taal volcano. The evacuation orders are in place for the following cities and towns:

• Laurel
• Cuenca
• Balete
• Agoncillo
• Alitagtag
• City of Tanauan
• Lipa City

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), activity at the Taal volcano was "generally weaker" on Wednesday; however, Alert Level 4 (second highest on a five-tier scale) remains in effect over the volcano, meaning that a "hazardous explosive eruption is possible within hours to days."

Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL) has resumed normal operations as of Wednesday after its temporary closure due to volcanic activity on Sunday, January 12, resulted in hundreds of canceled flights and left tens of thousands of travelers stranded. Residual flight disruptions are expected over the coming hours and days, and further cancelations are possible over the near term.

Power outages and disruptions to transportation and business are to be expected in the vicinity of Taal volcano over the coming hours and days, particularly in the event of a hazardous eruption.
