Australia: Heavy rain and flash floods continue in Western Australia February 26
Heavy rain continues in Western Australia and prompts disruptions in Perth February 26; additional flash floods, thunderstorms, and damaging hail expected
Event
On Tuesday, February 25, a major storm hit Western Australia, causing flash floods, tennis ball-sized hail, and the felling of trees, which continued into Wednesday, February 26. Transit and power infrastructure have been affected throughout Perth, and an estimated 100 residents are without water supply.
On Wednesday afternoon (local time) the Bureau of Meteorology announced that the storm had largely passed, though they would continue to monitor the situation.
Advice
Individuals in Western Australia are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate lingering transportation and business disruptions, confirm flight reservations, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
