In the Gulf province, including the provincial capital Kerema, around 60,000 people have lost their homes. In the Morobe province, rainfall overflowed rivers including the Rumu River, affecting 200 households and disrupting public services.
Weather officials forecast additional heavy rain over most of the country on Thursday, April 9. Associated flooding, landslides, and transportation disruptions are to be anticipated over the coming days.
