The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 6.7-magnitude earthquake that occurred on Sunday, June 14, around 131 km (81.4 mi) north-northwest of Amami Ōshima island (Kagoshima prefecture). The quake hit at around 00:47 (local time) at a depth of 164.8 km (102 mi). No tsunami warning was immediately issued.
Aftershocks are possible in the affected area over the coming hours and days.
