India: Heavy rains kill three in Jaipur (‎Rajasthan) August 14

Heavy rains kill three in Rajasthan’s Jaipur on August 14; further adverse weather forecast

Warning

Event

Heavy rainfall killed three people in Rajasthan's Jaipur on Friday, August 14, and inundated low-lying areas. Reports indicate that the adverse weather caused significant disruption as it brought the city to a near standstill. Imagery on social media showed flood water gushing down Delhi Road in Jaipur, damaging houses as it flowed through.

The India Meteorological Department has predicted moderate to intense thunderstorms and heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in more than 20 districts of Rajasthan, including Jaipur, over the next 24 hours.

Further rainfall and associated flooding, landslides, and disruption to utilities, transportation, and business are to be expected in Kerala over the near term.

Advice

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid areas directly affected by flooding and those prone to landslides, confirm road conditions before setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
