Italy: Heavy rain and flooding causes mudslides in Sardinia November 29 /update 1

Multiple mudslides were reported in Bitti (Nuoro province) on Sunday, November 29, following recent heavy rainfall in the region. According to local sources, much of the town's center, including the main square and the area surrounding the town hall is impassible due to a mudslide. At least three people have been killed in associated flooding with others being forced to evacuate. The mayor asked citizens to exercise heightened caution when venturing outdoors following the Italian Civil Defense declaration of a red weather alert for the entire island. There are also fears of flooding in Nuoro's Torpè and Galtellì; 150 people were moved from Galtellì to municipal facilities by emergency services as a precaution.

Further adverse weather is to be expected in the coming hours and days. Residual disruptions to transport, businesses, and utilities are possible in the near term following the flooding.
