Taiwan: Rail service disruptions continue on several rail lines as of Dec. 9; services likely to normalize Dec. 12 /update 1
Rail service disruptions likely to continue on Shenao, Pingxi, and Eastern Trunk lines in northern Taiwan until at least Dec. 12.
Event
A landslide continues to block rail tracks between Houtong and Ruifang train stations in New Taipei City as of early Dec. 9. Authorities continue working to clear the debris and repair the track. The landslide is causing rail service disruptions on the Eastern Trunk, Pingxi, and Shenao lines. Officials expect normal services to resume from 0500 Dec. 12, though lingering delays are likely. Authorities have increased intercity bus services, and congestion is possible on highways, especially between New Taipei City and destinations on the island's eastern coast, including Yilan, Hualien, and Taitung.
Advice
Confirm transport arrangements if traveling between the affected areas. Allow additional time to reach destinations. Confirm road conditions before driving and consider traveling during off-peak hours due to potential congestion.
