A magnitude-5.1 earthquake occurred in the Molucca Sea off Indonesia's North Maluku Province at 1200 WIT Feb. 22. The epicenter was about 173 km (107 miles) north of Ternate, Maluku Province. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 80 km (50 miles). Weak-to-light shaking was probably felt throughout northern parts of North Maluku Province, including Morotai and Ternate islands and northern areas of Halmahera Island. There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties, and significant damage is unlikely.
