A magnitude-6.0 earthquake occurred in the Bismarck Sea off Papua New Guinea at around 21:38 April 10. The epicenter was about 195 km (121 miles) north of Madang, Papua New Guinea. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 10 km (6 miles) and likely produced moderate-to-light shaking in parts of East Sepik, Madang, Morobe, Eastern Highlands, Simbu, Western Highlands, Enga, and Manus provinces. There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties due to the earthquake; however, it could take several hours until authorities can conduct comprehensive damage assessments. Aftershocks are possible. The incident has not prompted any tsunami advisories.

Officials may temporarily shut down transportation infrastructure in the tremor zone to check for damage. Minor disruptions could occur during shutdowns, but service will likely resume quickly if no damage is found. Utility outages are possible, particularly in coastal areas near the earthquake's epicenter.
