Puerto Rico: Authorities extend COVID-19-related nighttime curfew through May 9 /update 22
Puerto Rican authorities extend nightly curfew territorywide through May 9 in response to COVID-19.
Event
As of April 12, health authorities have extended the ongoing nightly curfew. The modified daily curfew has expanded to run 22:00-05:00. As a result of the new measure, businesses and restaurants must close nightly by 21:00. The sale of alcoholic beverages after 21:00 is prohibited. The nightly curfew will remain in place through at least May 9. During the curfew, all persons, except those providing essential services or attending to a medical emergency, must remain in their homes.
Other measures remain in place territorywide, such as the occupancy of businesses and restaurants remaining at 50-percent capacity, as long as the 1.8 meters (six feet) spacing between tables is guaranteed. Theaters may continue to be open at 30 percent, subject to compliance with a protocol. Businesses, establishments, beaches, marinas, and parks remain subject to health and physical distancing protocols. Recreational centers, clubs, and bars remain closed. Maritime transport services with the islands of Vieques and Culebra will continue to operate for residents and those with professional obligations.
International Travel
While the borders have reopened to all travelers, arriving passengers must wear a protective face covering and will be subject to enhanced health screenings and protocols. Authorities are also enforcing the following requirements:
Travelers are required to present a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than 72 hours prior to arrival.
Travelers without the required documentation will be tested at the airport and must remain in quarantine at their own expense while awaiting results.
Travelers without the necessary documentation and who refuse to take a test will be subject to a mandatory 14-day self-quarantine at their own expense.
Travelers who test positive for COVID-19 will be subject to a mandatory 14-day self-quarantine at their own expense.
All measures are always under review and subject to amendment at short notice.
