US: Continued protests likely in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota through April /update 10
Further protests likely in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota through late April following police shooting.
Event
Protests are likely to continue through late April in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. Demonstrations began April 11 after a fatal police shooting in the town. Large gatherings will likely continue to focus on the headquarters of the Brooklyn Center Police Department at 6645 North Humboldt Avenue, as well as the vicinity of the shooting at the corner of 63rd North and Lee North avenues. Rioting occurred mid-April, leading authorities to issue curfew orders and deploy the National Guard and Minnesota State Police. Since then, however, protests have been considerably more peaceful, although renewed violence and property destruction is possible.
Authorities will maintain an elevated security posture, particularly in commercial zones. Clashes between protesters and officers are possible, especially if police attempt to disperse unruly crowds forcibly or if protesters refuse to observe curfews. Associated transport and business disruptions are likely.
Advice
If operating in the area, exercise increased caution and situational awareness. Avoid any protests that may materialize due to the potential for clashes; keep away from any areas where large numbers of security personnel appear to be deploying. Seek alternative routes to circumvent any known demonstration sites. Carry identification documents and remain courteous and cooperative if approached and questioned by law enforcement personnel. Heed instructions of the authorities.
