Authorities are implementing rotational power outages islandwide May 13 following a power outage at the Hsinta power plant in Kaohsiung city. Officials have enacted two rounds of cuts to relax pressure on the electricity grid. Electricity workers are conducting emergency restoration work. The rotational cuts have resulted in electricity outages in millions of homes. The current round of outages will last until 17:30 May 13; authorities may announce additional rounds of power outages in the coming hours.

Business and communications disruptions are possible. Localized transport disruptions are also possible, especially if traffic infrastructure, such as traffic lights, are affected.

Plan for additional power outages. Conserve batteries and restrict cellphone use to emergencies in case of an extended power outage. Exercise caution when driving or crossing streets if traffic signals are not functioning.
