Haiti: Authorities extend COVID-19-related health state of emergency until June 15 /update 16

Haiti extends health state of emergency until June 15; tighter COVID-19-related restrictions remain in place.

Critical

Event

Authorities in Haiti have extended the nation's health state of emergency until at least June 15 and will maintain the tightened restrictions that reintroduced in late May to curb the spread of COVID-19. Under these measures, the existing nightly 22:00-05:00 curfew will remain in effect. Gatherings of more than 10 people remain banned, and temperature checks are being carried out at the entrances to all public and private institutions and businesses, including offices, schools, banks, universities, health centers, hospitals, and places of worship.

The use of facemasks is mandatory in all public places and individuals must maintain social distancing of 1.5 meters (5 feet) between persons. The government encourages all persons who can work from home to do so, and has banned graduations and other end-of-year celebrations or activities at education institutions in order to limit staff and student exposure to the virus.

The state of emergency could be extended and tighter measures implemented if cases continue to rise.

International Travel Restrictions
International travel restrictions remain in place. All travelers arriving in Haiti, regardless of country of origin, must present a negative result from an antigen or polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test taken within 72 hours before boarding their flights.

Commercial passenger flights are operating at Toussaint Louverture International Airport (PAP) in Port-au-Prince and at Cap Haitien International Airport (CAP); incoming passengers are subject to body temperature checks on arrival. Travelers on incoming flights must complete and submit a health declaration form, in which they must provide their in-country contact information and accommodation details. Travelers showing symptoms of COVID-19 may be asked to self-quarantine for 14 days.

Haiti's land border with the Dominican Republic is open to pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.
