Rwanda: Authorities to enforce adjusted COVID-19-related restrictions from June 14 /update 23

Rwanda to adjust COVID-19-related measures from June 14. Nationwide curfew from 21:00-04:00.

Officials issued a statement June 12, noting that several COVID-19-related domestic measures will be amended from June 14. Among the amendments, a nationwide curfew will now start one hour earlier and run from 21:00-04:00. Public transport buses may run at a 50-percent capacity. Additional amended measures and existing restrictions are noted below. The government has indicated that the measures will be reviewed after 14 days.

  • Public offices may operate at a 30-percent capacity. Private sector offices may operate at a 50-percent capacity. Businesses must close at 20:00.

  • Religious meeting areas may not exceed a 30-percent capacity.

  • Cafes and restaurants may operate at a 30-percent capacity and must close by 20:00. Bars are closed.

  • Tourism activity can continue with health measures in place.

  • Gyms can operate at a 10-percent capacity.

  • Movement between Kigali and other provinces and between the country's districts may continue.

International travel
International passengers arriving and departing Kigali International Airport (KGL) must present a negative result from a COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test taken within 72 hours before departure. Arriving travelers may be forced to take a PCR test and quarantine at a designated hotel for 24 hours while waiting for the result. Persons arriving from India must enter mandatory quarantine at a designated hotel for seven days at their own cost. Entry via land borders remains restricted.

Consider delaying traveling if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny and delays. Liaise with trusted contacts for further updates and guidance. Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation. Ensure contingency plans account for further disruptive measures or extensions of current restrictions.
