Unionized truckers, members of the Truckers' Wide Front (Frente Amplio de Camioneros), have launched an indefinite islandwide strike, July 21. Activists are demanding negotiations with the island's Financial Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico (FOMBPR) to change hauling fees.

Activists have halted all operations, except for the transport of medicines, diesel for healthcare facilities, and other basic goods. Strike organizers have also said that they do not plan to build roadblocks as part of the protest. It is unknown how long the strike will last; members of the FOMBPR have said they are willing to meet with truckers' representatives to discuss their demands.

Business operations are likely to be disrupted by the strike, especially if it extends for several days. Protests and roadblocks cannot be ruled out in the coming days.
