Afghanistan: US Embassy in Kabul advises citizens to shelter in place and not travel to airport as of Aug. 15
FLASH: US Embassy in Kabul warns citizens still in Afghanistan to shelter in place and not travel to Hamid Karzai Airport as of Aug. 15.
Event
The US Embassy in Kabul issued a warning on Aug. 15 instructing American citizens still in the city to shelter in place citing the rapidly changing security situation, including at Hamid Karzai International Airport (KBL). The embassy further cited reports that the facility had come under fire. Earlier in the day, the embassy had also advised citizens not to travel to KBL due to the same considerations; however, that instruction has since been deleted from the warning message.
This is a developing situation; additional information will be issued as warranted.
Advice
If operating in Kabul, shelter in place until the security situation concerning travel to the airport becomes clear. Strictly heed the instructions of authorities.
