Authorities are maintaining COVID-19-related domestic and travel restrictions unchanged as of Jan. 7.

Domestic Measures
Officials encourage social distancing and the use of facemasks. Officials require those traveling to and from Bujumbura to get tested. The accepted method of testing is unclear; several control points have been implemented to enforce the measure.

International Travel Restrictions
All incoming and departing air passengers above 24-years old must possess a negative result from a COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours prior to travel. Travelers must also undergo testing upon arrival at their own cost and self-isolate for 24 hours while waiting for the result. Individuals who test positive must quarantine at their own cost until they have recovered. All travelers must book their arrival and departure tests through the Ministry of Health website. The land border with Rwanda remains closed to passenger traffic, while the land borders with DRC and Tanzania are open to passenger traffic under strict health protocols; enhanced screening measures are in place at all ports of entry.

Authorities could impose, extend, or otherwise amend any COVID-19-related restrictions with little or no notice.
