Italy: Strike impacting public transport in Rome, Milan and Naples, Feb. 4

Strike impacting public transport in Rome, Milan, and Naples, Italy, Feb. 4. Plan for delays.

Warning

Event

Public transport workers aligned with the Usb Lavoro Privato union are striking in Rome, Naples, and Milan, Feb. 4. In Milan and Rome, workers are striking 08:45-12:45. In Naples, workers will strike 11:30-15:30. Various ground and rail transport services will be impacted. The action is in response to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on workers in the sector and to demand better working conditions.

The action is unlikely to be crippling as Italian law mandates minimum levels of essential services during labor actions. Crowding is possible on services that do run. Increased use of alternative means of transport, such as regional buses, taxis, or private vehicles, could increase road traffic congestion. Residual rail disruptions are possible even after the strike ends as the train operator repositions rolling stock.

Advice

Reconfirm the status of ground and rail transport in the impacted locations, Feb. 4. Plan for some delays and increased demand for available services.
