Members of the Puerto Rico Teachers Federation (Federacion de Maestros de Puerto Rico, FMPR) have scheduled multiple protests in the coming days over wages and pension-related issues. The following events are planned:

  • Feb. 8: Protesters plan to demonstrate in front of schools from 08:00. It is unclear which school will be affected.

  • Feb. 9: Demonstrators will gather at Luis Munoz Rivera Park at 08:00 and march to Fortaleza in San Juan.

  • Feb. 10: Protesters plan to appeal to legislators to approve several projects; demonstrations are possible at the Capitol Building in San Juan and legal offices territorywide. Further details have not been announced.

  • Feb. 11: Demonstrations planned at mayors' offices across the territory.

Street protests and cacerolazos (the banging of pots and pans from one's home) are planned at 20:00 each day. Hundreds of people are likely to participate in the rallies, which may extend for several hours. Heightened security is likely, and clashes between demonstrators and police cannot be ruled out.
