Suriname modifies COVID-19-related restrictions and lifts curfew as of Feb. 22; travel restrictions continue.

Warning

Event

As of Feb. 22, authorities in Suriname have modified the domestic measures and international travel restrictions to curb the spread of COVID-19. Under the modifications, the previously enforced nationwide curfew has been abolished.

Domestic Measures
Gatherings of more than 50 people are generally banned with certain exceptions, such as work-related meetings that follow established health protocols and family social gatherings within a single household. Facemasks must be worn in all places outside of the home. Restaurants may only provide seated indoor dining for fully vaccinated customers or those who tested negative for COVID-19 within the last 24 hours. Nightclubs, dance halls, bars, and other similar establishments must remain closed. Consumption of alcohol in public places is banned. Individual sports are permitted, but only vaccinated persons may participate in contact sports.

International Travel Restrictions
Only flights to and from the Netherlands, Dutch Caribbean islands, Guyana, French Guiana, Brazil, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago, and the US are operating in Suriname.

Fully vaccinated individuals may enter Suriname for any reason. Still, they must provide a negative result from a COVID-19 antigen test taken no more than 24 hours before departure or a PCR test taken no more than 48 hours before departure.

Unvaccinated individuals are allowed to travel to Suriname only if they are specially approved for travel by the government, provide a negative result from a COVID-19 antigen test taken no more than 24 hours before departure or a PCR test taken no more than 48 hours prior to departure, and complete a mandatory seven-day quarantine.

Authorities could reimpose, extend, further tighten, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.
