Warning

Event

Authorities continue to maintain the closure of the Chaman-Spin Boldak border crossing, located on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, Feb. 25, following clashes between Pakistani and Afghan border forces the previous day. Officials closed the crossing Feb. 24 after fighting broke out due to Pakistani forces accusing Afghan officials of trying to set up a checkpoint on Pakistani territory. Casualties have been reported. Security forces will likely extend the border crossing closure if more violence breaks out.

Authorities on both sides of the border will almost certainly maintain heightened security measures, including deploying additional personnel, in the coming days. Further rounds of fighting in the area are possible. Shipping and supply chain disruptions are likely, especially if the closure is prolonged.

The Chaman-Spin Boldak crossing is approximately 100 km (59 miles) southeast of Kandahar city, Afghanistan, and about 100 km (62 miles) northwest of Quetta, Pakistan.

Advice

Avoid the area due to possible additional fighting. Reconfirm the status of the crossing before travel or processing cargo shipments through the area. Seek alternative ground transport routes if the closure continues. Heed all traffic and security advisories.
