Officials in Jiangsu Province are implementing tighter curbs in Wuxi as of July 4 due to COVID-19 activity. Residents are not allowed to leave Wuxi unless necessary. All individuals must hold a negative nucleic acid test certificate taken within 48 hours or proof of a test taken within 24 hours. Inter-city bus services are suspended. Food establishments cannot offer dine-in services and nonessential businesses and tourist attractions must close. Officials have advised workers to telecommute.
The tightest curbs are in effect in medium-risk areas. As of July 1, officials have classified 11 areas in Huishan, Liangxi, Liuhe, and Xinwu districts in Wuxi and Tongshan, Quanshan, and Yunlong districts in Xuzhou as medium risk. Residents of and individuals with recent exposure to these areas must remain in their homes; exceptions may be possible for emergencies and essential reasons. Authorities restrict travel to and from, close nonessential businesses, and ban gatherings in affected communities. Leaders typically extend measures until two weeks after the latest date of newly confirmed community cases and will likely conduct several rounds of testing before easing restrictions.
Additional measures are likely if there are new COVID-19 cases. Strict controls, such as stay-at-home orders and closure of nonessential businesses, may occur in adjacent locations. Other city, provincial, and municipal governments may require individuals who have recently traveled to areas with higher disease activity to undergo COVID-19 testing and/or mandatory institutional quarantine periods. Business operations and supply chain disruptions are possible in industrial areas affected by localized restrictions.
