Authorities evacuated the international terminal of San Francisco International Airport (SFO) in San Francisco, California, at around 20:15 July 15 due to a bomb threat. Initial reports indicate hundreds to thousands of people were evacuated. According to a police spokesperson, officers detained one individual in connection to a suspicious package. SFO officials are asking travelers to avoid the international terminal until further notice. Passenger drop-off and pick-up is only available at the domestic terminals. The BART train station at SFO is also closed as a precaution. According to BART officials, Samtrans bus service is available between Millbrae and SFO in both directions.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely at SFO over the coming hours until the investigation concludes. Disruptions to flight operations at SFO are also possible.

Advice

Avoid the affected area until authorities give the all clear. Heed the instructions of security personnel. Allow additional time to reach SFO through late July 15.
