Significant disruptions on UK East Coast rail line following damage cables between Peterborough and Stevenage, July 26.

Rail disruptions are ongoing on the East Coast rail line July 26 following damage to electrical cables between Peterborough and Stevenage. As a result, all East Coast services between Stevenage and Peterborough and Stevenage and Cambridge are currently suspended. The East Coast line connects London to Edinburgh and the suspension is likely to cause significant disruptions to all long-distance trains in the east of England and southeast Scotland. Services between Brighton and Cambridge have also been disrupted.

The following services and rail companies are affected:

  • Grand Central

  • Great Northern

  • Hull Trains

  • LNER

  • LUMO

  • Thameslink

Rail replacement bus services are in operation where possible and rail companies will accept competitors' tickets. Significant disruptions are likely for the rest of July 26. Increased demand for taxis, ride-hailing and bus services, and private vehicle use is possible. Traffic congestion may occur, especially if disruptions continue into the evening rush hour.
