Authorities continue to implement COVID-19 curbs in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China, as of July 28. Disruptions possible.
Event
Officials in Sichuan Province continue to implement some curbs in Chengdu as of July 28 due to COVID-19 concerns. Facemasks are mandatory in crowded areas and on public transport. Nonessential venues, like entertainment and sports establishments, may reopen in several districts; individuals must present a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 48 hours to enter such premises. Dine-in services are allowed in restaurants, though officials encourage residents to order delivery or takeout instead.
Tighter measures remain in place in high- and medium-risk areas. As of July 28, there are at least 145 high- and medium-risk areas in Chenghua, Jinjiang, Jinniu, Longquanyi, Qingyang, Tianfu New, Wuhou, and Xindu districts. Authorities will restrict travel to and from the affected communities. Security personnel will enforce checkpoints in these areas to ensure compliance with movement restrictions. Officials typically extend measures until one week after the latest date of newly confirmed community cases. Officials will likely carry out several rounds of testing in these locations before easing restrictions.
Local authorities advise individuals not to leave Chengdu unless necessary. People that need to leave Chengdu must present a negative nucleic acid test result taken within 48 hours. Travelers arriving in Chengdu who have visited medium- and high-risk areas within the last seven days must undergo seven days of home isolation or centralized quarantine respectively. People arriving from low-risk areas must take two nucleic acid tests within three days. Individuals entering Shuangliu International Airport (CTU) and Tianfu International Airport (TFU) must present a negative nucleic acid test result taken within 48 hours.
Officials could extend the measure or impose tighter restrictions if there are new COVID-19 cases. Strict controls, such as stay-at-home orders and closure of nonessential businesses, are possible. The government may impose gathering, business, and travel restrictions in other parts of Chengdu and Sichuan Province as a precaution if new cases emerge.
Advice
Strictly heed the instructions of authorities. Avoid all nonessential operations in areas impacted by travel controls. Confirm appointments. Remain cooperative if approached and questioned by law enforcement officers.
