Business owners protesting in Puebla, Mexico, July 28. Increased security, localized traffic disruptions likely.

Informational

Event

Owners of auto parts shops located in the area of Calle 46 Poniente are staging a march in central Puebla, July 28. The purpose of the action is to demand they be allowed to reopen their businesses after forced closures during a recent law enforcement operation to seize stolen auto parts. Participants initially marched along Boulevard Carmen Serdan before moving to Diagonal Defensores de la Republica. It remains unclear how long the demonstration may last.

Although the action should remain In largely peaceful, authorities will almost certainly deploy an increased police presence nearby as a precaution. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out. Localized transport and business disruptions are likely.

Advice

Avoid the protest as a precaution. Consider alternative driving routes to circumvent the affected area. Allow additional time to reach destinations near potential protest locations. Heed the instructions of security personnel. If violence occurs nearby, immediately leave the area and seek shelter in a non-government building. Do not attempt to drive through protester roadblocks; wait for police to dismantle them instead before proceeding.
