Air traffic controllers plan to launch a nationwide strike in Tunisia, Sept. 9. Flight disruptions possible. Confirm flights.

Warning

Event

Air traffic controllers affiliated with the Tunisian General Labor Union (l’Union générale tunisienne du travail, UGTT) have announced plans to strike nationwide in Tunisia, Sept. 9. The exact time the labor action will begin has not been announced. According to the Office of Civil Aviation and Airports (OACA), the strike is in response to the government's noncompliance with a number of prior agreements.

Unless averted, the strike will likely prompt widespread delays and cancelations of cargo and passenger flights. Residual disruptions at airports could continue after the strike ends.

Advice

Confirm flights if booked to fly via Tunisian airports, Sept. 9. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider alternative travel arrangements if necessary and arrive at airports early to allow extra time to clear passenger processing and airport security.
