The Solomon Islands will observe a mourning period Sept. 12-14 following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the country’s head of state. Authorities have designated Sept. 12 as a public holiday nationwide. Events honoring the late monarch's 70-year reign will also take place in Honiara.
Sept. 12: Special wreath-laying ceremony at Government House.
Sept. 14: Public event at Government House 08:30-12:00.
Sept. 14: Requiem church service at Saint Barnabas Anglican Cathedral from 10:00.
Additional commemorative services may occur nationwide.
Widespread business disruptions are likely, particularly in main cities and towns. Increased security and localized transport disruptions are probable near event venues, including sections of Kukum Highway and Hibiscus Avenue. Police may temporarily block roads or erect security checkpoints to facilitate the ceremonies.
