Guyana, Suriname: Cross-border ferry services suspended indefinitely due to technical problems

Authorities have suspended cross-border ferry services between Moleson Creek and South Drain on the Courantyne River until further notice as of Sept. 23 due to engine problems. The ferry is one of the few land routes between Guyana and Suriname. Officials did not confirm when regular services will resume; the suspension could continue until the end of September.

Business disruptions may occur for organizations dependent on surface transport between Guyana and Suriname.

Moleson Creek is around 155 km (96 miles) southeast of Georgetown; South Drain is about 212 km (132 miles) west of Paramaribo.
