South Africa: Water supply issues ongoing in parts of Johannesburg Oct. 3 /update 1

Water supply issues ongoing in parts of Johannesburg, South Africa, Oct. 3.

Informational

Event

Johannesburg Water issued a statement Oct. 3 noting that the water supply network continued to be constrained. Officials have requested residents, particularly in low-lying areas, to reduce consumption. High water demand and recent power outages at supply plants have impacted the water supply network, limiting water access since Oct. 1. Rahima Moosa and Helen Joseph hospitals are still impacted and are being supplied through water tankers. The full Johannesburg Water statement can be accessed by clicking here.

The water outages may lead to business disruptions, particularly for companies that rely on large quantities of municipal water to maintain operations.

Advice

Minimize nonessential water use. Confirm alternative water supplies for business operations. Pressure and water quality may be poor after service resumes; run taps for several minutes before using water. Use only bottled water from reputable suppliers for drinking and hygienic purposes.
