India: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to protest across Jharkhand State through Nov. 13

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to protest across Jharkhand State, India, through Nov. 13. Increased security, transport disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will protest across Jharkhand State through Nov. 13 to denounce the alleged corruption and policy failures of the state government. On Nov. 7, activists began a week of demonstrations by protesting outside several district headquarters; the BJP plans to hold a series of sit-in protests and marches as a part of their action. Additional gatherings will likely occur near prominent government buildings, public squares, and monuments, as well as along major thoroughfares. The gatherings may be well attended.

Authorities typically monitor larger gatherings. Clashes between security forces and protesters are possible, particularly if police attempt to forcibly disperse demonstrators. Counterdemonstrations and skirmishes between supporters of rival groups also cannot be ruled out. Protest activity may prompt localized transport disruptions, especially if protesters attempt to block or march on roadways.

Advice

Avoid the demonstrations due to possible clashes. If clashes break out, depart the area immediately and seek shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Allow additional travel time near protest sites through the evening of Nov. 13. Heed all official security and transport advisories.
