Afghanistan, Pakistan: Officials close Chaman-Spin Boldak border crossing Nov. 13 due to clashes

Authorities have reportedly closed the Chaman-Spin Boldak border crossing, located on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, Nov. 13 due to skirmishes between Pakistani and Afghan border forces. It is unclear what caused the skirmish; an Afghan official has stated that no injuries occurred as a result of the cross-border firing.

Authorities on both sides of the border will almost certainly maintain heightened security measures, including deploying additional personnel, in the coming days. Further rounds of fighting in the area are possible. Shipping and supply chain disruptions are likely, especially if the closure is prolonged.

The Chaman-Spin Boldak crossing is approximately 100 km (59 miles) southeast of Kandahar city, Afghanistan, and about 100 km (62 miles) northwest of Quetta, Pakistan.
