Syria: Suspected Turkish drone reportedly strikes joint Kurdish and coalition forces' base Nov. 22
Turkish drone reportedly strikes joint Kurdish and coalition forces' base near Al Hasakah in northern Syria, Nov. 22.
Event
Heightened security measures and further airstrikes remain likely over the coming days after an apparent Turkish drone reportedly struck a joint Kurdish and coalition forces' base in northeastern Syria, Nov. 22. The exact location of the base is unclear, but it is reportedly located north of Al Hasakah. Two soldiers affiliated with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) were killed in the strike.
The projectile fire comes amid Turkey's new military operation, which has been dubbed Operation Claw-Sword. Turkey has launched a series of airstrikes targeting Kurdish groups, such as the People's Defense Units (YPG), which it has blamed for the Nov. 13 militant attack in Istanbul, which killed six people and wounded 81 others.
Advice
Refrain from all nonessential travel to Syria. If operating in Syria, exercise caution and avoid all military sites. Heed the instructions of local security forces. If airstrikes, artillery fire, or warning sirens are reported in the general vicinity, report to the nearest bomb shelter until given further instructions by authorities.
