Informational

Event

Protests in opposing the Iranian government by Iranian soccer fans remain possible ahead of the upcoming game between Iran and Wales Nov. 25. The game is scheduled to take place at 13:00 at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan. Iranian fans chanted anti-government slogans and demonstrated in solidarity with the ongoing protest movement in Iran outside the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha on Nov. 21.

Any protest that may materialize will almost certainly pass peacefully. However, Qatari authorities will be quick to disperse the protesters in an effort to preempt transport and business disruptions.

Context

The Iranian football team refused to sing the country's national anthem in the Iran vs. England game in solidarity with the protest movement in Iran, which erupted in mid-September following the death of a Kurdish-Iranian woman who died in custody for allegedly violating Iran's dress code.

Advice

Avoid all protests. Follow all official instructions. Adhere to local customs and avoid sensitive topics of discussion, including religious or political issues.
