Jordan: Unionized taxi and ride-hailing application drivers to join truckers' strike from Dec. 7

Unionized taxi and ride-hailing application drivers in Jordan to join truckers' strike from Dec. 7. Transport disruptions, protests likely.

Informational

Event

Unionized taxi and ride-hailing application drivers plan to strike nationwide from Dec. 7 in solidarity with striking truck drivers denouncing the increase in fuel prices. The duration of the strike is unspecified. Ride-hailing application drivers have announced protests at the following locations from 10:00:

  • Amman: Abdoun Corridor

  • Irbid: King Abdullah II Park

The strike will likely result in reduced services for taxis and ride-hailing applications and increased demand for alternative modes of transportation. Trucks, including long-distance cargo carriers, will probably remain off the road during the strike, potentially resulting in supply chain disruptions. Increased security and localized transport disruptions are likely near protest locations the morning of Dec. 7. Clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out, particularly if demonstrators are overly disruptive or if they ignore police orders to disperse.

Advice

Arrange alternative modes of transport well in advance of intended travel. Allow additional time to reach destinations during the strike period. Plan for ground shipping disruptions. Avoid all demonstrations as a routine security precaution.
