UK: Unionized postal workers striking nationwide, Dec. 14-15

Unionized postal workers striking across the UK, Dec. 14-15. Business disruptions, protests possible.

Informational

Event

Unionized postal workers represented by the Communication Workers' Union (CWU) will continue strike action Dec. 14-15 over a pay dispute. The CWU is the largest union among Royal Mail employees and postal services will be severely impacted; no deliveries will be made on strike-affected days and collections from mail delivery offices will not be possible. This industrial action is part of a series of strikes that started on Dec. 9 and 11. Further stoppages are planned, Dec. 23-24.

Unless averted, the strikes will significantly impact postal collections and deliveries, at the busiest time of the year for postal services. Disruption is likely amongst businesses that rely on postal deliveries. Striking union members are also likely to demonstrate outside Royal Mail premises and government buildings, potentially causing localized disruptions.

Advice

Avoid all demonstrations as a routine security precaution. Follow local travel and security instructions. Allow extra time for business-critical postal deliveries.
