Unionized rail staff strike in southwest Baden-Württemberg region, Jan. 4. The labor union of German locomotive drivers (GDL) is in dispute with the regional rail operating company SWEG over a collective negotiating arrangement. The city of Stuttgart is most severely impacted by the industrial action. An earlier short-notice strike affected rail services Dec. 31-Jan. 2. It is not known when the strike will end.

The strike will cause significant disruptions to the Baden-Württemberg region's rail network.
