UK: Residual disruptions possible at Bristol Airport after runway lights fail Jan. 25, briefly preventing flights from landing or taking off

Residual disruptions possible at Bristol Airport, UK, after runway lights fail Jan. 25, briefly preventing flights from landing, taking off.

Warning

Event

Residual flight disruptions, including delays and cancellations, are possible at Bristol Airport (BRS) over the coming hours after the airport's runway lights briefly failed late Jan. 25. Airport officials confirmed that flights were consequently unable to land at or take off from the airport shortly before 20:30. The runway had reportedly reopened as of around 21:45, allowing flights to land and take off; however, airport authorities have reported that "knock-on disruption[s]" are possible, and that engineers will continue to work overnight Jan. 25-26 to fully resolve the issue.

Any passenger backlog that materialized due to the earlier halting of flight operations may exacerbate residual delays and cancellations over the coming hours.

Advice

Confirm flight reservations if flying via BRS through at least early Jan. 26 as a precaution. Do not check out of accommodations until onward transportation is confirmed. Contact your airline for more information.
