Warning

Event

Heightened security and associated transport disruptions are likely in downtown Ottawa, Ontario, through at least early February, due to the possibility of protests in the area. Authorities have said the presence of police will increase to avoid vehicle-based protests as they occurred in January-February 2022 in the "Freedom Convoy."

Officials say they will allow organized protests but not parked vehicles around Parliament Hill and Wellington Street, where multiple federal government buildings are located. Organizers of the "Freedom Convoy" had initially planned events in Winnipeg to commemorate the anniversary of their 2022 demonstrations, but they were later canceled. However, the possibility that some groups will attempt to protest in the area remains.

Due to the larger-than-usual presence of police some roads may be temporarily closed in downtown Ottawa through early February.

Advice

Strictly heed instructions of authorities. Confirm appointments and allow additional time to reach your destination if operating in downtown Ottawa in late January, early February.
